Albion Systems uses  a number of old and new programs for its own design work. Two of our own programs are available for sale.

 OPTICIAN : A fast, powerful interactive program with a long pedigree, for designing ion beam systems. This program rapidly allows the ion beam system architecture to be designed, modeling ion sources, magnets, lenses, quadrupoles, solenoids, electrostatic deflectors, Wien filter, electrostatic acceleration tubes, strippers (hence tandem accelerators) to high accuracy.

This is a first-order code. As such, its solution is a necessary but not sufficient condition for a system to function. It is the first tool to be used in any project and can save weeks of work.

Enhancements to this code allow for space-charge defocusing, quantitative space-charge neutralization, and the recently discovered instabilities which cause additional beam degradation at low energies in magnets. Operation is keyboard based, but dead simple. Typical appearance of a data screen:


SORCERY: This is an older FORTRAN program with a challenging interface which provides rapid and accurate electrostatic solutions to Poisson's equation, in the presence of ion beams of multiple species.  Combining a number of the best features of other codes, it accurately models ion beam formation from plasma sources, and is ideal for ion implantation applications. Few codes do this correctly. SORCERY is quantitatively accurate. It is also perfect for the design of deceleration lenses in the presence of space-charge. Typical output looks like this:
